Calling slash writers in London

Calling slash writers in London

Damian - fractured
I've just had an email from Laura Baumbach asking if I know of any movie-fandom slash writers who live in London. She has been contacted by a radio station in London, which wants to interview one.

I couldn't think of anyone off the top of my head, but if you are a movie-fandom slash writer who lives in London and wants to be on the radio, please get in contact and I'll put you in touch with Laura and the radio people :)
  • Which films Beery - I used to do Harry Potter, but ages ago. Am in Surrey.
    • She didn't specify any particular films. I think HP would be fine, but I'll have to get back to you about the Surrey part!
      • I'm 45mins from London by direct train if that is of any help :)

        *dances around*
        • *g* I've emailed Laura saying you were interested, and I'm now going out to buy my youngest daughter clothes. I'll be back in about 2 hours and get back to you if anything has happened in that time :)
      • btw do you want me to spread the message?
        • That might help, yes, thankyou. I would now feel bad if someone came along and ousted you, but on the other hand, if they are really strictly only looking for Londoners, it would be good to try and find one for them :) Thank you!
  • Jules Jones

I believe that Jules Jones recently moved back in UK and lived near London. She did something in the fandom world, but don't know exactly what. I will forward her the message. Elisa
    • Re: Jules Jones

Thanks, Elisa! The radio station doesn't want anyone who writes m/m romance professionally, they're just after fanfic writers. But she may well know somebody who fits the bill :)
    • Re: Jules Jones

I'm actually in Manchester, which is a couple of hours by train to London, so really too far for this. Also not a movie fandom person -- I'm strictly TV fandoms for fanfic, and not much of that these days. Though if they were interested in hearing about the stone age and paperzines, I could bore for Britain on that subject. :-)

If they were after tv fandom, I could probably dig up a few Londoners with a post on my LJ.
      • Re: Jules Jones

Thanks Jules! I'm not sure what in particular they want to talk about but I think we're ok with the_sea_to and spikeyboots, and don't need any more volunteers :)

Manchester is a great city! One of these days I'm going to get back up North again :)
  • I know a few. Let me look around. But you should also talk to the folks at the Organization for Transformative Works -- [info]otw_news.

    • Thank you! If they're happy with [info]the_sea_to I'll stick at that, but if they desperately want a Londoner and nothing else I'll go over and ask on OTW. Thanks for the suggestion!
      • *winces* I'll talk to [info]the_sea_to. She left fandom about two years ago to focus on her professional writing.

      • Hey, a question has come back from the founder of the largest Harry Potter fanfic archives: is there any reason your interviewer is interested in movies specifically? BBC's Merlin is the big hit among slash writers right now.

As for movies, Pirates of the Caribbean had a large slash following. Star Wars: The Phantom Menace was also very big. And if there isn't a flash flood of Kirk/Spock slash fic in two weeks, when the next Star Trek movie comes out, I'll eat my hat.

        • I don't know why they're after movie-fandom fans in particular. That was just one of the two specifications I was told they were looking for (the other one being that the writer be from London.) They didn't specify which movie, though, so any of those would do. I know I have some PotC, LotR and Star Wars: TPM fans on my FL, but it seems that none of them are interested/from London :)
          • Yeah, I'm not exactly getting a multitude pounding on my door, either. I'd forgotten about LotR. I don't think the reporter knows that movie fandoms tend to be short-lived compared to book and TV fandoms.

If she has three weeks, Star Trek will explode. I've no doubt of it. But there's no hot movie fandom right now.
            • She's happy with spikeyboots, so that's fine. My guess is that they won't ask anything that hasn't already been discussed to death by metafandom, so almost any slash fan of any fandom will be mentally prepared to cope :)
  • *snigger* I'm not that hardcore into it - and I won't commit professional suicide. :)
    • I don't mind talking about it because HP fanfic has explicit approval of JKR. But hey, that is just my 20p. And it is interesting from a sociological perspective.
    • I'm not sure it's the problem it used to be, now that so many people are coming clean about having started writing fanfic - like Naomi Novik and Lois McMaster Bujold. And it's very common in the m/m romance publishing world, naturally :)
      • I meant as a financial journalist in the private equity space... I wouldn't be bothered if I was just a novellist...
        • Ah, yes, fair enough :)
I like the new icon, btw!

          • Thank you. :-) I have a new colour scheme in my LJ too. :) It's all to get me in the mood for the templars. :)
  • I think there's a couple on my flist - want me to ask?
  • I'm a Londoner - but my main fandoms are Harry Potter (which, could, arguably be a movie-fandom) and Final Fantasy VII (a game).

I've also got a background in fan/fanfiction academic - so always keen to natter on.

I'd be very interested, if she'd like to interview me!

    (Here via [info]erastes).
    • I think HP could qualify as a movie-fandom, depending on how you got into it :) If you drop me your name (or pseud of choice) and email address to alex@alexbeecroft.com, I'll pass it on to Laura and see what the radio people say. Thank you!
  • Hampshire isn't London, but I'd do it if available. Under my LJ pseudonym. (Or in my alias Consuella, mistress of the Count of Toulouse). Yes, the bacteraemia has left me even odder in the head...
